Chromite Mine, Balochistan
Chromite is straightforward to extract and hard to deliver to specification. We held the same grade, shipment after shipment, for years.

The situation
What we walked into
Chromite is a different business from dimension stone. The buyer does not care what the rock looks like, they care about grade, consistency and delivery.
This operation had ore in the ground and no reliable route from the ground to a buyer's specification.
Down the hole drill rig on a chromite bench in arid terrain

What we did
End to end
Consultation
We ran an exploration and sampling programme with core drilling to establish grade distribution across the deposit, because you cannot sell to a specification you have not measured.
We designed the extraction sequence to blend across zones and hold a consistent shipped grade, which is what international chromite buyers pay for.
Equipment
We supplied DTH drilling equipment with hammers, rods and button bits for development and production drilling, core boring equipment for the ongoing sampling programme, and the consumable resupply chain to keep it all running in a remote location.
Operations
We ran the operation. Extraction, grade control, sorting, stockpile management and loading.
We built the sampling and grade verification routine that let every shipment go out with numbers behind it.
The result
What changed
The operation delivered consistent graded chromite to export specification over multiple years.
Grade control through blended extraction meant shipments met contract specification without rejection, which is the single thing that keeps a chromite buyer coming back. Consumable resupply was planned around the remoteness of the site so that drilling never stopped waiting for bits.
- Multi year
- Continuous delivery to export specification
- Zero
- Shipments rejected on contract specification
- Every load
- Shipped with sampling numbers behind it
- Buffered
- Consumable resupply, so drilling never waited on bits

Feedback
The hard part is delivering the same grade on every shipment, year after year. That is what Halberg did.
